Covid mortality 14 times less likely in recently vaccinated / Article

Last week, from November 7th to 13th, 2550 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Latvia. The number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 fell by 16.8% compared to the previous week.

The number of Covid-19 cases has decreased in all regions of Latvia. Likewise, the decline in the disease continues in almost all age groups, while a slight increase can be observed in the age group over 80.

The number of patients in hospitals fell by 9%.

Of the newly identified cases of Covid-19, 38% were reinfected. The SPKC recalls that recovery from Covid-19 does not guarantee long-term immunity.

Comparison of the intensity of infection spread in 100 000 inhabitants in the newly vaccinated population (a booster vaccination was given in the last 6 months or a primary vaccination course was completed), a completed primary vaccination course (longer than 6 months) and among unvaccinated people between July and October was reported that the Covid-19 infection is 3.4 times lower among the newly vaccinated people in Latvia than among the unvaccinated.

From July to September, recently vaccinated people were 9.9 times less likely to be hospitalized than unvaccinated people.

On the other hand, fatal cases of Covid-19 were reported 14.1 times less frequently in recently vaccinated patients than in unvaccinated ones.
