Epicurean Olive Oil Co. brings out the flavors of the summer market

Summer is here and the local farmers’ markets offer the best produce and other food from local farms. Epicurean Olive Oil Company at The Avenue offers infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars, as well as flavored spices and salts to enhance the flavor of the bounty of the season. They also provide over 200 recipes and flavor mix suggestions to dazzle the palette.

Owner Peggy Hunt explains that this is a tasting store that offers customers a selection of 100% extra virgin olive oils, flavored oils, aged balsamic vinegars, truffle oil. and gourmet nut and seed oils from around the world. They even provide a brochure that suggests flavor variations, like extra virgin olive oil infused with bacon and maple infused balsamic vinegar or champagne vinegar and olive oil with blood orange.

Epicurean Olive Oils is a franchise. The local store opened in 2013, and they’ve been Ruthies Award winners for their gourmet dishes for six consecutive years. Here are some of their recipes to use with items picked up at one of the local farmers’ markets:

Kale Chips with Tuscan Herbs

1 bunch of baby kale
2 tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil with Tuscan herbs
¼ tsp. Epicurean French Gray Sea Salt (optional)

Place all the ingredients in a large bowl and massage the extra virgin olive oil with Epicurean Tuscan herbs and Epicurean French gray sea salt (optional) into the kale using your hands. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Serves a.

Strawberries stuffed with a drizzle of dark chocolate

1 pound of peeled, seeded and chopped tomatoes
3/4 cup sugar
3 3-inch cinnamon sticks
16 very large strawberries
Epicurean dark chocolate balsamic vinegar

In a saucepan, simmer the tomatoes, sugar and cinnamon sticks until thick and syrupy. It may take up to 35 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, remove the cinnamon sticks and refrigerate. This part can be done a week in advance. Remove the top of the fresh strawberries and set aside. Hollow out the center of each strawberry. Fill with tomato jam. Drizzle with Epicurean dark chocolate balsamic vinegar. For four persons.
